Peng Sawng Thang

Youth Pastor

Brief info

Sawng Thang was born in the hilltribes of Myanmar. His father was a pastor, so he had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home. After a few years of avoiding formal ministry, he finally heeded the Lord's calling and went to South Korea to study for his Masters of Divinity. In 2015, the Lord opened another door for Sawng to come to the States to study at DTS. During his time in seminary, he served as the youth pastor at Myanmar Christian Church in Garland. Also while at seminary, he met and married his wife Courtney.

After receiving his ThM in 2020, Sawng and Courtney moved to Georgia to be near Courtney's family before moving overseas to Myanmar to serve as missionaries. In November of 2020, their first child, Benaiah, was born. Between a global pandemic and a military coup in Sawng's home country of Myanmar, God clearly closed the door to moving overseas for now and began opening new ones.

In Sept 2022, the Thangs moved back to the Dallas area to be near community, both friends from seminary and the Burmese community. Sawng has a passion for serving among youth, particularly 1.5 and 2nd generation students. He loves to spend time outside with his family, and soccer and reading are two of his favorite ways to relax.

Sawng started full time here at DCFC in May 2022.
